How are Kaiko products designed?Updated 3 months ago

All our garments are designed, sized, and developed in-house by our team in Helsinki — right from the very beginning.

Our clothing design is led by Anna Kulhelm, while prints and jewelry are designed by Henna Valkama. Kaiko’s prints are created by hand: Henna first paints them with watercolours on paper, after which the artwork is transformed into a digital format and refined into a print-ready design in different colourways.

Once the design and print are ready, we provide the factory with detailed measurements and instructions, which are used to create the garment pattern. From there, product development begins — materials, fit, and details are carefully refined, often through several prototype rounds. A new product doesn’t come together overnight — the process can take several months.

For some accessories, we build on existing base models from our manufacturers. For example, our logo socks are based on a standard model from the sock factory (Sidoste), which we’ve customised (such as the shaft length and logo). Our tights, made in Italy, were originally developed for children and later adapted into women’s sizing.

From idea to finished piece, every product goes through many stages — from design and hand-painted prints to multiple samples — before becoming part of a collection 💛
